HOW TO PARTICIPATE: VOLUNTEERS

This volunteer experience has been a triple hit: good art to look at while you’re working, great people to work with and, best of all, an immediate, positive and obvious impact. Art Connect New York’s Vision

Art Connects New York (ACNY) believes that the visual arts have a unique ability to interpret the world, connect people, and inspire insight into ourselves and the world around us.  By using the transformative power of art, we affirm the human spirit and help make New York a more welcoming, expansive city.

ACNY connects curators with social service agencies and non-profit organizations to create inspiring, compelling exhibitions of New York City-based artists.  Permanently installed, these collections offer recipient agency’s clients, visitors and staff the opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and aesthetic enjoyment.

ACNY means what it says:  Art does connect New York.  In an effort to take this idea as far as possible, we include volunteers in our process!

We are still young and growing. Just like any youngster, it does take a village.  The more people involved, the more placements we can do and the more connections we can make across our city.

Volunteering

On a day-to-day basis, ACNY needs help making placements happen quickly and smoothly. Some ways in which you could be helpful are:

  • Picking up and delivering artwork
  • Helping to install artwork at social service agencies — installing the work at the placement agencies is the most exciting part of the process. It’s an opportunity to witness a happy transformation — and one that always draws comments of amazement and delight from agency staff and clients.
  • Database entry! ACNY maintains a series of databases to catalog work available for donation, donating artists, receiving organizations and contributors. We always can use help transforming incoming information into useful data.
  • Researching social service agencies — we want to be sure we find and work with all types of social service agencies throughout the five boroughs. It’s a tall order, but it can really be fascinating to learn about the incredible work New Yorkers are doing across the city to help fellow New Yorkers.
  • Fundraising —Researching potential funders, writing grant proposals and preparing proposal materials is integral to our continued expansion.
