Fay Chandler 1923-2015
Art Connects New York is very sad to announce that artist and art patron extraordinaire, Fay Chandler, passed away on the evening of March 3, 2015.
Fay was the Founder of The Art Connection Boston, the umbrella organization that unites Art Connects New York with 10 like-minded organizations nationwide all sharing the same mission to bring contemporary visual arts in needy social service agencies in their area.
Fay remained a steadfast advocate and mentor to Art Connects New York since its inception in 2006 and will be sorely missed by all, especially Jamie Johnson, Founder of Art Connects New York and Alice Greif, Board Member emerita, both long time friends of Fay.
Fay received her MFA from the Hoffberger Graduate School of Maryland Institute College of Art. She worked as a painter and a sculptor in the Boston area since the 1970s. Her work lives on in the collections of the Danforth Museum, the DeCordova Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Chrysler Museum of Art; private collections throughout the United States, and in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and Japan; and numerous non-profit institutions in the Boston area including Cambridge Public Schools, Rosie’s Place, The United Way, The Women’s Education and Industrial Union, Oxfam, The Paige Academy, Latinos Y Ninos, and The Committee to End Elder Homelessness.
Our condolences go out to Fay’s family and children for their loss.
Fay’s spirit will live on in the work that Art Connects New York does and will continue to do.
