Service Donations

One of ACNY’s goals is to make art installations as low-cost as possible for receiving agencies. In fact, we’d like to get that number down to zero. But we can only achieve these goals with the donation of critical services:

Framers—Framing is usually the most expensive part of an ACNY installation because much of the donated artwork is on paper. The receiving agency is responsible for framing costs. So we ask you to donate framing services — your donation can be the difference between an agency receiving work and having to decline it.
Preparators — We find that our installations go faster and much more smoothly when we have experienced preparators on-site during installations to both "spot" and hang the work.
Printing — Each installation involves creation of a proposal book, artwork identification labels and curator statements must be produced and, for many of our installations, invitations to an opening celebration are needed. Help with high-quality color copying for pre-installation requirements is greatly appreciated; beautiful opening announcements generate interest and help ACNY make more connections.

In 2005, after encouragement from our friends at The Art Connection in Boston, Jamie Johnson and Gwendy Feldman began working on the idea of a similar organization for New York City. It seemed natural: artists in the art capital of the world contributing work to strengthen New York’s community.

We cast our nets for help, but it actually came in a splendidly unexpected way. An unsolicited check arrived in the mail from one of the people we encountered during our research journey. What a gift! That initial donation made it possible for us to accomplish our first placement at the International Center for the Disabled, an event that enabled our own miracle of transformation – Art Connects New York went from an inspiring idea to being a successful reality.

Since that first gift, ACNY has found funding from other individuals and organizations, obtaining additional continuing donations critical to our operations. But that crucial first grant is the one that made it possible for us to create a firm foundation for our future. So, we’ll take this opportunity to thank, as publicly as possible, that very generous and confident donor. It’s made all the difference! You have our deepest thanks and gratitude.
