HOW TO PARTICIPATE: AGENCIES

Art Connect New York’s Vision
Art Connects New York (ACNY) believes that the visual arts have a unique ability to interpret the world, connect people, and inspire insight into ourselves and the world around us. By using the transformative power of art, we affirm the human spirit and help make New York a more welcoming, expansive city.
ACNY connects curators with social service agencies and non-profit organizations to create inspiring, compelling exhibitions of New York City-based artists. Permanently installed, these collections offer recipient agency’s clients, visitors and staff the opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and aesthetic enjoyment.
How ACNY Works With Agencies
Art Connects New York oversees the placement of artwork in your facilities. We
- Work with curators to develop a permanent collection of artwork. Through conversations with your organization, our curators organize a theme based on your agency’s stated mission.
- With our help, you choose the work that will be placed in your facilities — and where it will go.
- Install the work.
- Train your staff in the proper care of the artwork.
- Coordinate the necessary paperwork so that ownership of the artwork transfers directly from the artist to your organization.
- Help organize an opening to celebrate with your clients, participating artists, curator and benefactors.
- Encourage artists to participate with your clients in interactive events related to the placement.
Why Receive an Art Placement?
Art has an amazing power that goes far beyond sprucing up a hallway. It can transform a room or hallway into a space for reflection and transformation. For your clients, art can offer new perspectives and insights. An ACNY placement means even the walls of your facilities support your agency’s mission.
ACNY would like to hear about what you do and how you serve the people of New York City. We look at a variety of factors when considering potential recipient agencies and look forward to speaking with you about how we may be able to work together.

What to Expect When Receiving a Placement
Most of our placements take 8-10 weeks. The process involves:
- An initial phone call by ACNY for additional information on your agency.
- An exploratory visit to your facility by an ACNY staff person.
- An introductory meeting to connect our curator with selected senior members of your staff to survey your facilities and determine an installation theme.
- A second meeting with the curator, your involved senior staffers (and possibly an agency client representative) and ACNY. During this meeting, you will review suggested artwork. The curator will introduce the works; you and your staff will choose which pieces you want for installation.
- Selected artwork will be installed, as agreed, in your facility. Each piece will be accompanied by a wall plaque. A curatorial statement will also be mounted with the installation.
- Supporting ACNY staff and curator during installation of selected artwork. The work will be installed, as agreed, in your facility. Each piece will be accompanied by a wall plaque. A curatorial statement will also be mounted with the installation.
- Training appropriate agency staff members on proper care of the artwork.
- Encouraging you to have a celebration to “open” the installation, which will include the artists, your staff and clients and others you may wish to include.
- ACNY publicizing your agency and the placement.
